Starguard

Sci-Fi Skirmish Combat Rules (A Fan Page)

The grand daddy of all land Sci-Fi combat games! Although this came out in 1974, I didn’t get started with it until 1977. I was the first game that I purchased my own minis for. My uncle took my cousin and me to the local hobby shop and armed with some saved up allowance money, I pick up a hand full of Terrellians. Even with my meager painting skill at the time and my Testors enamel model paints, they came out sufficiently creepy looking to storm many a battlefield.

With Starguard fast approaching it 50th anniversary, now is a great time to check it our if you haven’t yet. We are working with John McEwan to do some special things to celebrate, including re-releasing the 1st edition of the rules as a 50th Special Collectors’ edition. Keep an eye out for more news updates about that here.

As far as the game mechanics, it is an I go, you go (IGYG) system with roll to hit, roll for damage combat that has been common in tabletop wargames ever since. If you are an old grognard, experienced wargamer like me, you will find this plays quick and easy. If you are an new player, or only used to playing modern games that provide a lot of hand-holding, you may find this challenging to figure out on your own. Feel free to contact us with any questions and we’ll happily help you out.

The figures are still readily available for this game, either directly from John’s web store tin-soldier.com or from us here. Below are just a few examples of our troops.
