It has been a very busy year here so far. As many of you already know, we are celebrating Starguard’s 50th anniversary with many special items. We kicked it off with a re-release of the 1st Ed rules and have several options available here. Then we will be following up each month with some additional fun items. Current announcements are made on the Starguard fb group here. We also added 4 more SG factions to the webstore: Colonials, Fabians, Rep-Com, Eli, plus several tanks and vehicles, and also the Thogs. This leaves only the Orilla, Necromorphs, Alin Ru’, Bastep Nefamii, Nautiloids, and Terran Imperium still to be added. We plan on chipping away at that list throughout this year.
The next item was the Mice-at-Arms miniatures release. We have been talking about it on our previous blog post, fb group, and webpage. Check those out to get caught up if you missed it. It has been a lot of fun playing this. The 3d printed castle is nearly complete, and we are looking forward to playing a campaign of it as soon as we get the figures painted up. We recently had a scenario writing contest and will be announcing the winner shortly.
Then, speaking of 3d printing, we focused quite a bit of time and energy on 3d model design and printing. These were items primarily to support M-a-A and F:L. Most of those projects are shelved temporarily due to a printer recall. We’ll be limited for the next couple months in that area, but will at least try to keep the current items in stock. Once we are back to full capacity, we’ll complete our test prints prior to offering the new items up on Thingiverse.

Next, we have been focusing a lot of time and attention to Bullets and Mortars. It is the skirmish game that we will be running at Origins this year. Everything with that is coming along nicely. I did do a touch up of all my hills so they match my ground cover color scheme better. Can’t have a shabby table at a big show like this one. I still need to paint up some more troops/vehicles. I signed up for 6 player max games and don’t yet have 6 full forces. I’d better get busy on that. I’m leaning toward doing an Italians vs. Russians on the Eastern Front during World War II scenario. It’s a bit out of the ordinary, I have the most already painted for them, and I have a good mix of vehicles, cavalry, and infantry… and they would be the easiest forces for me to balance the sides. I don’t want one side feeling like they couldn’t win because the other side had superior gear. There will be more on this as things continue to progress.
Four paragraphs in and we are just getting to the Star Armor update. The SA Supplement is now done to the point of it being the first draft. The last 3 factions are now written. There are still some items waiting for painted minis for better photos but we are happy with the text. If you spot any errors/omissions, please let us know. The Marsian prototypes for the “Walker” and “Hover Weapons Platform” arrived and look great (photo at the top of the page). We went ahead and ordered the sellable stock which should be coming in shortly. The shop listings are built so they are ready once the stock arrives. The last 2 factions, the Grubvurm and the Knoots are at the mold making stage. We should see the first of those within a month if all goes well. In the meantime, check out the SA Supplement here and start planning the demise of your enemies.
Below are the assembly steps for the Marsian walker sculpted by John McEwan (McEwan Miniatures or Reviresco), Stan Johansen, and RRB Minis. Note that I had the initial unpainted walker’s legs positioned too high at first. They are not indexed, so if you like the look of this better, go ahead and make yours that way.

Below are some of the initial Grubvurm figures and greens sculpted by David Bezio to give you an idea of what is coming. More details are in the SA Supplement.

And lastly the Knoots sculpted by David Bezio.

So which of these newest factions are you the most excited for?
